AAP Leadership Rushes to Contain Fallout as Senior Leaders Convene Key Meeting in Jalandhar
After six Rajya Sabha members quit in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party convenes a high-stakes meeting in Jalandhar led by Manish Sisodia. Though termed a routine observer gathering, the presence of multiple legislators signals urgent efforts to prevent internal divisions and maintain party unity.
The meeting, initially described as a gathering of 1,000 block observers, has taken on greater significance as several Members of the Legislative Assembly also began arriving at the venue. Originally scheduled to be held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Jalandhar, the location was later shifted to Shahpur City Campus, situated on the outskirts of the city.
According to preliminary information, at least 25 legislators had reached the venue, including Naresh Kataria, Jeevan Jyot Kaur, and Inderjit Nijjar. Block observers were also seen arriving in large numbers. During the event, a group photograph involving legislators and observers is scheduled to take place on the campus grounds, indicating an attempt to project unity amid internal concerns.
A day earlier, on April 28, Sisodia had addressed speculation through a post on the social media platform X, asserting that the meeting was exclusively intended for block observers and dismissing reports of any emergency gathering involving legislators.
The sudden congregation of both observers and elected representatives, however, underscores the seriousness of the situation within the party following the high-profile departures. The developments signal an urgent effort by the leadership to stabilize the organization and reinforce cohesion at a critical political juncture.
